Updated | Explosion at Toyota showroom in Haz-Zebbug 'not accidental'

Police responded to reports an explosion in the early hours of this morning in Haz-Zebbug, in a car showroom in Mdina Road. 

At about 1:15am, an explosion was heard from the Toyota showroom and police were on site. No one was injured however a car inside the building sustained some damage after glass panes shattered as a result of the blast. 

A magisterial enquiry is underway and police are investigating the cause of the explosion which "may have not been accidental", according to sources.

In a statement, the Debono Group confirmed the media reports. It preferred not to release any comments due to the ongoing police investigation. 

“We take the opportunity to thank those several persons who have shown their solidarity with us this morning and confirm that we are open for business as usual,” the company said.
