Farrugia Frendo sworn in as magistrate

Caroline Farrugia Frendo, daughter of Speaker of the House Anglu Farrugia, sworn in magistrate

Caroline Farrugia Frendo was today sworn in magistrate this afternoon.

Farrugia Frendo , daughter of Speaker Anglu Farrugia, was sworn in almost two months after her controversial nomination.

Farrugia Frendo’s nomination was also mired in controversy given that magistrates can only be appointed after having served in a court of law for seven years. Farrugia Frendo, narrowly made the cut, having obtained her warrant on 31 January, 2009 but taken her oath in March 2009. Since October 2015 she has been working as a court attorney under Judge Abigail Lofaro at the family court.

Farrugia Frendo was nominated alongside Ingrid Zammit Young, who immediately withdrew her nomination due to possible Constitutional impediments given that she had been Chairperson of the Employment Commission.

Nobody occupying such a position could be nominated for the post unless three years pass from the termination of the post.
