Mosta whirlwind collapses Lidl supermarket roof
Damage has also been reported at a number of other locations around Mosta this evening
A powerful whirlwind has caused part of the roof of Lidl supermarket in Mosta to collapse this evening, as significant amount of damage has been reported across the locality. The supermarket was immediately evacuated.
In addition to the damage at the supermarket, a long wall at the Mosta industrial estate has also damaged a number of cars which were parked underneath it. The police have also confirmed that a balcony collapsed at different location in Mosta.
A number of trees in the area were also damaged by the winds, the police said.
Witnesses at the supermarket said the gusts of wind were strong enough to lift a structure covering shopping trolleys, injuring some people and damaging a number of parked vehicles.
No serious injuries have so far been reported, and members of the Civil Protection Department have been dispatched to a number of areas.
