Registered employment up 4.4% as of June 2016
The number of people in full-time employment increased by 7,520 since the same month last year
According to data published by the NSO, in June 2016, the number of people registered as being in full-time employment increased by 7,520 or 4.4%, up from 177,499 in June 2015. The private sector was responsible for the creation of 7,446 jobs, while public sector employment increased by 74.
An increase was observed across all sectors, with the exception of agriculture, forestry, fishing and manufacturing, all of which saw the number of registered full-time workers drop.
The largest increases were in jobs classified as falling under the professional, scientific and technical activities; administrative and support services and arts, entertainment and recreation categories.
An increase in part-time workers was also recorded with the number of registered employees increasing by 5.4% between June 2015 and June 2016.
The largest increases were seen in the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, accommodation and food service activities; and arts, entertainment and recreation categories.
The number of people whose registered part-time job was their primary source of income also saw an increase of 4.8% since June 2015.
