Austin Gatt supplies police with details of Swiss bank account
Swiss bank account details forwarded to police “to ensure that it was not connected with any criminal activity, particularly the ongoing Enemalta investigation.”
Transport Minister Austin Gatt has written to the Commissioner of Police giving him details of the Swiss UBS account held by him, which was revealed during a press conference held yesterday, "to ensure that it was not connected with any criminal activity, particularly the ongoing Enemalta investigation."
The police are investigating allegations of kickbacks paid by Trafigura to a former Enemalta and MOBC consultant. Trafigura agent George Farrugia has turned State's witness after he was granted a presidential pardon.
"Apart from this account and the other accounts and investments included in his parliamentary declaration of assets, Gatt and his wife do not own or hold any other property, monies, investments or accounts in any part of the world and this either in their own name, or through third parties or through nominee companies, or trusts," the minister said in his statement.
No mention was made that Gatt would be filing a report to the police against the Labour Party over an allegedly manipulated email, which was circulating on Facebook.
Gatt yesterday claimed there were two versions of the same email, revealed first by MaltaToday, showing George Farrugia had told a Total representative that he made the minister.
It turned out that The Times had replicated the MaltaToday email using a different formatting, leading to a confusion over whether the email had indeed been fabricated.
