Malta Public Transport and Transport Malta announced today plans to reduce the price of the Floriana Park & Ride facility to 40c per day, while including a more efficient, free shuttle service to and from Valletta and Floriana.

The changes will come into force tomorrow Saturday 1 February.

The shuttle service to Valletta and Floriana will now be operated by Minibus Co-op Services Limited, using minivans instead of buses. As partners of Malta Public Transport, Minibus Co-op have extensive experience in the provision of Park & Ride services and are committed to providing a reliable customer-focused service.

Minibuses will be offering regular trips every 10 minutes between Valletta Bus Terminal, Floriana and all zones of the Park & Ride, with frequency increasing to every 5 minutes at peak times. The shuttle service will run throughout the day from 0600hrs, with a last trip at 2100hrs, and will be exclusively reserved for Park and Ride clients.

Passengers will be able to board and get off the Park & Ride shuttles at various designated bus stops along the route (see attached route maps), all of which feature the blue Park Ride logo. At Valletta Terminal, the Park & Ride shuttle will be picking up and dropping off passengers at a specially designated bus stop located next to Bay 1 of the bus station, which will be clearly identified with the blue Park & Ride sign and will be reserved for Park and Ride users.

"We believe that the Floriana Park & Ride has great potential and it has not been exploited enough. The new, affordable price combined with a more reliable and frequent shuttle service using minibuses delivers an attractive and quick alternative to parking in the Valletta and Floriana areas," said Malta Public Transport CEO Konrad Pule.

"While we work towards creating a credible and efficient public transport system, we cannot forget that some people still need to use their cars to go to work. Besides, particular jobs require people to move around throughout the day, which is why a reliable and frequent shuttle service is crucial to making this work," said Transport Malta Chairman James Piscopo.

The shuttle route will link all available zones of the Park and Ride to Floriana and the Valletta Bus Terminal. An extended service will operate every half hour after 0830hrs to serve St George's square, providing a better drop-off point for those who want to visit the city centre.

Floriana Park & Ride currently offers more than 750 parking places in Zones A, B and D. The parking facilities are open between 0600hrs and 2100hrs all week including Sundays and public holidays.

Additional parking spaces will be made available in the coming weeks.

Customers are also being offered two premium services: a reserved VIP parking bay for an annual price of €300 and a private electric mini-cab service that takes you right to your door and/or back to your car for €5 each way.

For more information about the Park & Ride and details about the VIP parking facility, please contact customer care centre on 2122-2000 or [email protected], or visit www.publictransport.com.mt/parkandride.

Three cheers to Hon. Minister Joe Mizzi, a diligent hard worker. Now its the turn of tackling the 'Xaghara tal-Floriana' Rip Off Parking where the 'mock voluntary fee' is 2 Euros. There, there are around 500 parking places thus there is a daily netting of around 1000 Euros with no VAT receipt. Tax ???? Hon Mizzi kindly take note.
