Hundreds donate hair to cancer patients
Hundreds of people have donated their hair to the Malta Community Chest to be used as wigs for cancer patients
Malta Community Chest Fund will be providing cancer patients who have lost their hair with wigs made of hair that people have donated.
Project coordinator Matilde Balzan said that the MCCF have received hundreds of donations since the project was launched during the Istrina charity-raisng event.
“Around 180 cancer patients, including children, needed wigs during the past year,” Balzan said. “Their dream became a reality when hair stylist Ian Miller offered his services on a voluntary basis to prepare the donated hair for reworking into wigs, after it is donated.”
Customs and Maltapost are also offering their services free of charge to send the hair overseas and import it back after it is turned into a wig.
The MCCF will hand out these wigs for free to cancer patients who cannot afford to buy them and request a donation from those who can.
Donated hair can be dyed but not bleached, and must be 30 centimetres or longer, ideally as a ponytail.
Donations must be made to San Anton Palace and people can call 21226226 for more information.
