Nationalist MP Joe Cassar has resigned from his position on the shadow cabinet after it emerged that businessman Joe Gaffarena had paid some €8,000 for construction works on Cassar's family home in 2011.

The General Workers Union has denied knowledge of a valuation of the Workers' Memorial Building in Valletta, after an article in the Times of Malta last week suggested that the building was worth €3.2 million.

Italian expatriates in Libya report that the Italian Catholic cemetery in Tripoli has been ransacked in the latest in a series of vandal attacks stretching back to WWII. The Libyan Tobruk government claimed recently that three Italian warships had infringed upon its territorial waters.
