MTA to decide on official, after police conclude investigations' - MTA

The Malta Tourism Authority will only be taking the appropriate action, if at all, with respect to one of its officials, as soon as police conclude their investigations into allegations revealed by sister paper 'Illum' that the official pressurised a restaurant owner to relinquish lease.

MTA official Anthony Cutajar is being investigated by the police for allegedly pressuring an operator to relinquish his right to place tables and chairs on the pavement so that it can be taken up by another operator across the road.

Cutajar - who is responsible for ensuring that public land is not encroached upon by restaurant operators - for the second time in three months, has been implicated in a request for a prohibitory injunction for allegedly having over-reached his duties at the MTA. The request was accepted by the court.

Sister paper 'illum' revealed last Sunday that Cutajar was also mentioned in two police reports, one lodged in September and another earlier this week.

In reply to questions sent by Illum, an MTA spokesman said that the authority will wait for the police investigations to be concluded  before it decides what action should be taken against its official Anthony Cutajar.
