Peter Agius leaving Malta EP office to become Antonio Tajani’s speechwriter
Antonio Tajani was recently elected president of the European Parliament and Peter Agius will be joining his Cabinet as speechwriter
The head of the European Parliament information office in Malta will be leaving his post to join the cabinet of the president of the European Parliament, as a speechwriter.
Agius, 37, was appointed head of the EP office in Malta in 2012 and he will now be working directly with Antonio Tajani, who was elected to the post just a few days ago.
Agius will be taking up his new post on 6 February, where he will remain until Tajani's term expires in May 2019.
PN leader Simon Busuttil welcomed Agius’s appointment, describing it as a proud moment for Malta.
Before relocating to Malta, Agius spent 10 years working with the Council of Ministers in Brussels during which he also worked on the revision of the Maltese version of the EU Treaties.
In 2008, Agius was assigned the role of political advisor to the presidencies of the Council a role which put him in charge of assisting in negotiations in dossiers related to the internal market including the services directive, the professional qualifications directive and on betting and gaming.
As of 2009, he has also assisted the office of Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, on topics related to the internal market.
