Iraqi brothers build robot to fight Islamic State
Alrobot will be able to hit targets up to 3km away with its heavy machine gun and rocket launchers
Islamic State fighters could soon be facing an unfamiliar and unsettling enemy – armed robots.
The Baghdad post reports that “Alrobot,” a remotely-operated weapons platform has been developed by two brothers who live in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. The armoured robot, equipped with a heavy machine gun and Katyusha rockets, uses four cameras to afford the operator a 360 degree view.
Alrobot's main gun can be angled upwards at up to 45 degrees and is protected by sloping armour, armored wheels and “solid Teflon tires. " The weapons platform is understood to be able to target enemy at ranges of up to 3 km.
The story does not give an expected date for the robot's deployment.
