BCRS Malta celebrates two-year anniversary with open day event
Discover the journey of beverage containers at BCRS Malta’s first-ever open day
Have you ever wondered what happens after you drop your plastic bottle or aluminium can into one of the BCRS Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) or collected from your closest retailer? Are you a HoReCa establishment that is already using the manual collection system and would like to know what happens with your collected bags? Now’s your chance to find out! On Saturday, 16 November 2024, BCRS Malta is opening its doors to the public to celebrate two years of successfully operating Malta’s Deposit Return Scheme (DRS).
This special Open Day will offer visitors an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how the recycling sorting process works. The event will take place at the BCRS Malta Recycling Facility in Ħal Far and is a great opportunity for the public to see first-hand how beverage containers are collected, sorted, and prepared for export.
The day promises to be a fun and educational experience for families, combining interactive activities with a focus on sustainability. Visitors of all ages will have the chance to explore the facility through guided tours, where they can follow the journey of a beverage container from the moment it's deposited to when it's baled and ready for export. Along the way, they’ll learn how the DRS system is helping Malta reduce littered waste and promote a circular economy.
Children can get hands-on with creative recycling workshops, where they’ll learn how everyday items can be repurposed into something new, and participate in games that encourage proper recycling habits. There will also be live demonstrations showing how the different types of materials – plastic, aluminium, and glass – are processed.
To create a vibrant atmosphere, the event will feature a variety of entertainment for all ages. Highlights include a special appearance from the BCRS recycling mascot, an engaging puppet, magic and bubble shows for kids, and an inflatable fun park compete with a bouncy balloon house. Families can also enjoy visits from popular kids’ character mascots and photo opportunities with collection trucks and food stalls. With plenty of activities for everyone, the event promises to be both informative and enjoyable, keeping guests engaged throughout the day.
There’s no need to register and entrance is free, just come along and join in! Whether you’re curious about the recycling process or want to learn more about how your efforts are making a difference, this Open Day is a chance to explore the world of recycling in a fun and engaging way. With something for everyone, it’s the perfect family outing that also promotes sustainability.
The BCRS Open Day takes place on Saturday, 16 November 2024, from 10am to 5pm at the BCRS Malta Clearing Centre in Ħal Far. Follow BCRS Malta Facebook page for more details.
