Two-part book series aims to get under your skin
Boutique publisher Ede Books releases Inside Skin, two print-on-demand companion volumes melding poetry and photography
The boutique publisher Ede Books will be once again teaming up with poet Miriam Calleja for a unique publication event. Inside Skin will be a two-part book series in which Calleja’s poetry will be presented side-by-side with black-and-white nude photography by Zvezdan Reljic.
The book series, which will be officially launched on October 13, is offered on a print-on-demand basis, meaning they will only be available via pre-order from the Ede Books website.
Calleja’s previous poetry collection, Pomegranate Heart, was published in a very limited edition by Ede Books in 2015, and its heady blend of confessional angst and sensuality has become a staple of local poetry readings and open mic sessions ever since. The collection’s popularity among a small but dedicated readership led to the printing of a second edition this year.
With Inside Skin – each word denotes the separate volume of the two-part series – Calleja will present 30 poems alongside an equal number of nude photographs, hand-printed using the lith process by Zvezdan Reljic, with each edition of the book containing 136 pages. Each poem and print will carry its own cover page.
Ede books was formed by Zvezdan Reljic and David Pisani as a result of their shared passion for books and printing processes. The opportunity to put a project in book form arose with David Pisani’s TRANSIT project, which was the catalyst to form Ede Books. With an unapologetic love for Japanese photobooks and graphic design and a tendency to search for photographers, artists and writers working on the fringe of society, Ede Books aspires above all to produce quality books of meaningful and contemporary visual and editorial content.
Inside Skin is edited by Antoine Cassar and Giola Cassar. To pre-order the two-part book series, log on to http://edebooks.eu/inside-skin/. A launch party for the series will be held at Architecture Project, Sappers Street, Valletta on October 13 at 19:00
