National Book Council announces Terramaxka Prize winners
The eight winners of the Terramaxka Prize 2016 have been announced as part of the official opening of the Malta Book Festival
The eight winners of the Terramaxka Prize 2016 have been announced as part of the official opening of the Malta Book Festival.
The Terramaxka Prize is a national prize for books written for children and adolescents throughout 2015.
The announcement was made on Tuesday 7 November 2016 during the official opening of the Malta Book Festival, which took place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta last week. All Prize participants, festival exhibitors and other special guests were present for the announcement.
According to the National Book Council, these winning titles will be celebrated during festival mornings in a series of activities organised for visiting school children.
The winning titles of the Terramaxka Prize in their respective categories are as follows:
- Original work | books for children (ages 0-7) went to Mingu by Clare Azzopardi (Merlin Publishers Limited)
- Original work | books for children (ages 8-12) went to Irvin Vella Investigatur Virtwali: il-Każ Manduca by John A. Bonello (Merlin Publishers Limited)
- Original work | books for adolescents (ages 13-16) went to Djamantini by St Clare College, Secondary School, Pembroke
- Translation | books translated into Maltese (ages 0-7) went to Vjoletta by Loranne Vella (Merlin Publishers Limited), which is a translation of ‘Violeta’ by Abril Calero
- Translation | books translated into Maltese (ages 8-12) went to Il-Leġenda ta’ San Ġorġ u d-Dragun by Pierre J. Mejlak (Merlin Publishers Limited), which is a translation of ‘La llegenda de Sant Jordi i el Drac’ by Laura Vaqué
- Best book production | Terramaxka book prize 2016 went to Merlin Publishers Limited for Clare Azzopardi’s Mingu
- Illustrator of winning book in the original works | books for children (ages 0-7) went to Lisa Falzon for Clare Azzopardi’ Mingu
- Illustrator of winning book in the original works | books for children (ages 8-12) went to Lisa Falzon for John A. Bonello’s Irvin Vella Investigatur Virtwali: il-Kaz Manduca.
