Tonight: the Stravinsky Project

The Malta Arts Festival will present The Stravinsky Project tonight at the President’s Palace Courtyard, Valletta at 21:00 hrs.

The second evening of the Stravinsky Project features the famous Histoire du Soldat, scored for violin, double bass, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone and percussion. Histoire du Soldat is based on a story by C.F.Ramuz from Alexander Afanasiev’s collection of Russian tales. A Faustian narrative on the theme of an individual who sells his soul to the devil, only that in this case it is a soldier who exchanges his violin for a book of knowledge.

Programme: Prelude: Stravinsky and Block - Visions of Russia, Excerpts from Block’s poetry with music by Stravinsky for voice and piano, and Stravinsky - Histoire Du Soldat.
