Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti win prestigious Peter Serracino Inglott Award

The Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti (Maltese Heritage Foundation), a non-profit organisation promoting Maltese cultural heritage, was awarded the Peter Serracino Inglott Award for Civil Engagement.

The prestigious honour, which was awarded by The Today Public Policy Institute, marks the Foundation’s services to the Maltese cultural heritage field during the past 24 years, and its significant contribution in civic thinking.

The Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti (FPM) beat off the competition to wind the award ahead of the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop Campaign.

The award was accepted by Judge Giovanni Bonello, Patrimonju’s Deputy Chairman and Editor of its publications, at a ceremony held at The Malta Chamber of Commerce in Valletta.

Since its inception in 1992, Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti has sought to educate by shining a light on well-known and lesser-known areas of Maltese culture, bringing to widespread attention hundreds of artefacts belonging to private collections. The Foundation has forged ahead in the Maltese cultural landscape, showing the way forward with its spectacularly splendid exhibitions, by creating and transforming museums, and informing and enlightening with its award-winning publications.

Moreover, through the outstanding medium of the quarterly “Treasures of Malta” magazine, the foundation has been responsible for collecting, documenting and disseminating information and research into every aspect of Malta’s cultural and historical heritage.

In his speech, Martin Scicluna, the Director General of The Today Public Policy Institute paid tribute to the FPM’s dedicated service to Malta’s cultural heritage.

“Despite their win, in reality there are no winners or losers, only hard-working and deserving participants. HSBC’s Catch the Drop Campaign contribution to educating schoolchildren and the wider Maltese community had been outstanding and had made an enormous contribution to civic society in Malta,” Scicluna said.

The Peter Serracino Inglott Award commemorates one of Malta’s foremost thinkers.

The Today Public Policy Institute, which was responsible for initiating this Annual Award in honour of the memory of Father Peter, is Malta’s only independent think-tank. It was formed nine years ago with the mission of promoting wide understanding of strategic issues of national importance and to help in the development of sound public policies.
