After 22 years, the Simpsons hometown is finally revealed
Show creator Matt Groening finally reveals that Springfield city is in the state of Oregon.
A question that has been haunting generations of fans of the infamous cartoon series 'Simpsons' for years on end, has finally been answered by the father of the show himself, Matt Groening.
For years, the Simpsons lived at 742, Evergreen Terrace in Springfield, yet no one knew where Springfield was on the American map. The creator has finally revealed that the city is found in the state of Oregon .
"Springfield was named after Springfield, Oregon. The only reason is that when I was a kid, the TV show "Father Knows Best" took place in the town of Springfield, and I was thrilled because I imagined that it was the town next to Portland, my hometown," Groening revealed in an interview with Smithsonian magazine.
"When I grew up, I realised it was just a fictitious name. I also figured out that Springfield was one of the most common names for a city in the US. In anticipation of the success of the show, I thought, 'This will be cool; everyone will think it's their Springfield'. And they do."
Born 22 years ago, the animated sitcom is a parody of a middle class American family revolving around the lives of its protagonists - Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield.
The show's popularity has gone as far as winning 27 Primetime Emmy Awards as the Simpson family also managed to get their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
