[WATCH] Michelle Muscat's ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
PM's wife accepts her nomination and takes the bucket in recognition of ALS.
The Prime Minister’s wife, Michelle Muscat, has joined the ever-growing list of ALS ice bucket participants - albeit not having much of a say in the matter. In a video she posted online this morning, Muscat received her bucket full of iced water from none other than PM Joseph Muscat an in the presence of their two amused daughters.
On her part, she nominated Anna Calleja, coordinator of the Special Olympics, Maria Micallef, the first female chairperson of Air Malta, and the team of Ilsien in-Nisa.
Yesterday afternoon, Muscat was nominated by Sunday Times of Malta Editor in Chief, Steve Mallia, who himself was nominated by PM Joseph Muscat.
Incidentally, Malta Today managing editor was also nominated by the PM. Missed it? Check it out here.
The aim of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is to raise awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and for participants to donate money to find a cure for the disease.
ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive disease that damages motor neuron cells in the brain and the spinal cord. It therefore effects the brain's ability to control or initiate movement of limbs. In the later stages of the disease, the victim is rendered completely paralysed.
An estimated 2.4 million ice bucket videos have been shared on Facebook from all corners of the world. The ALS Association has received around $13.3 million in donations since July 29.
