Johnny Depp pays surprise visit to school
In true pirate fashion, Captain Jack Sparrow stormed into a London primary school in response to a fan letter.
The BBC reports that Johnny Depp stormed into a south-east London primary school in full Captain Jack Sparrow regalia together with a band of fellow ‘pirates’, in response to a letter by a young fan who called upon Depp’s popular Pirates of the Caribbean alter-ego to lead a mutiny against the teachers of the Meridian Primary School in Greenwich. Depp allegedly showed up – fellow cast members of the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film in tow – with just ten minutes notice.
In her letter to Depp, nine-year-old student Beatrice Delap wrote: “We are a bunch of budding young pirates and we’re having trouble mutinying against the teachers! We'd love it if you could come and help!”
While the 47-year-old actor stopped short of actually inciting mutiny, saying that he was being “monitored by the police” outside the school, he performed pirate songs and danced for the students for a good 15 minutes, and promised to frame the letter Beatrice had sent him.
Depp and the fellow cast members of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, made their surprise visit while taking a break from filming the fourth instalment in the popular swashbuckling saga at the Old Royal Naval College.
