Brangelina no more: Hollywood power couple calls it quits
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been together since 2004: the super actress has filed for divorce
What has happened to eternal love? Power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have split up, with the super actress filing for divorce.
The couple that came to be known as ‘Brangelina’ have been together since 2004, and married 10 years later in 2014 – the same year that they filmed ‘By the Sea’ in Malta.
The couple has six children and she is asking for their physical custody, entertainment website TMZ reports. Reportedly, the divorce was triggered by “conflict” over Pitt’s parenting.
Jolie is not asking for spousal support, TMZ reports.
An attorney for the actress said: “This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time.”
Jolie and Pitt’s relationship kicked off in 2004, when speculation mounted over the pair’s closeness during the filming of ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’.
At the time, Pitt was married to actress Jennifer Aniston.
In January 2005, Pitt and Aniston announced they were splitting and Aniston filed for divorce a few months later.
In April 2005, photos surfaced of Pitt, Jolie and her adopted son Maddox in Kenya.
Jolie later adopted daughter Zahara from Ethiopia and in early 2006 she announced that she and Pitt were expecting a baby. Shortly thereafter, Pitt was granted the right to legally adopt Maddox and Zahara.
Their daughter Shiloh was born in May 2006 and son Pax was adopted from Vietnam in March 2007. Jolie gave birth to twins Vivienne and Knox in July 2008.
