Rob Lowe to star in series to be filmed in Malta

Rob Lowe (Parks and Recreation), Jenna Fischer (The Office), Megan Mullally (Will & Grace) are set to star in Apocalypse Slough, a drama series that will be filmed in Malta.  Following a series of discussions with the Malta Film Commission the series will start shooting in Malta in the coming months with other locations including the UK and South Africa. The series is being produced by Working Title Television and Bigballs Films for Sky 1 and NBC.

Apocalypse Slough is set to be a bold, adrenaline fuelled drama about the last days of mankind. It is a relentlessly entertaining mix of action, adventure, romance and wit set against a backdrop of apocalyptic chaos, which follows an eclectic group of seemingly unconnected characters around the world as their lives start to intersect in the most unexpected ways. The story is triggered by the news that a comet is on an unavoidable collision course towards.

NBCUniversal International Television Production which operates a joint television production venture with Working Title Television will distribute the series worldwide.

Minister for Tourism and Film Industry Edward Zammit Lewis said : “The film industry is going from strength to strength with yet another international production to land in Malta.”

“We are optimistic that by creating an economically sustainable industry we will be generating new jobs and offering new employment opportunities,” he added.

Film Commissioner Engelbert Grech expressed satisfaction at having such a high concept drama with a very talented cast filming in Malta.

“The new cash rebates and the consistent marketing drive that the Malta Film Commission has put together are bearing results.”
