Video | ‘The King's Speech’ scores royal flush at Oscar nominations

The King's Speech, Tom Hooper's drama about George VI's struggles to overcome a stutter, picked up 12 nods at today's announcement, including ones for best director, best film and best adapted screenplay.

True Grit, the Coen brothers' western remake, received 10 nominations, beating The Social Network, David Fincher's Facebook drama, which picked up eight.

Mo'Nique, who won last year's best supporting actress award for her role in Precious, made the announcement at 1.38pm GMT alongside Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The 83rd Academy Awards will take place in Hollywood on 27 February.
