Singer-songwriter Lucio Dalla dies of heart attack
Italian singer-songwriter Lucio Dalla dies aged 68 after suffering a heart attack in Switzerland after the open concert of a series of concerts.
Italian pop icon Lucio Dalla, 68, suffered a heart attack while in Montreaux, Switzerland, just three days before his 69th birthday.
The singer-songwriter and musician was in Switzerland for a number of concerts starting last night at the Auditorium Stravinsky in Montreaux to be followed by concerts in Basel, Luganoand and Geneva.
Dalla was one of the Italy’s most successful artists with a career spanning more than 50 years and he had just participated in the latest popular Sanremo festival to conduct the orchestra for the song 'Nani' which was sung by Pierdavide Carone.
The friars of the Basilica of St Francis of Assisi were the first to break the news of Dalla’s death and were also the first to notify artist Lorenzo Jovanotti who could not believe the news.
Dalla had performed together with numerous artists including Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja and was author of hit singles such as “L’ anno che verrà” e “Come è profondo il mare”
