Summer folk-pop for the soul | Stalko
One of Malta’s foremost exponents of folk-pop – the three-piece Stalko – will be performing alongside UK folk act The Moulettes this Saturday at V-Gen, ahead of the release their first full length album.
Local folk-pop band Stalko - who consist of Chris Cini (violin), Mike Stivala (guitar and vocals) and Tim Ellis (piano and vocals) - will be taking to the stage this Saturday at V-Gen, Ball Street, Paceville to support the Moulettes, an up-and-coming British folk-pop act who will perform their sophomore Malta gig on the night.
Speaking to MaltaToday, Tim Ellis revealed that Stalko's set on the night will consist almost exclusively of new material from the album - which fans can expect to pick up come November, teasingly describing the upcoming release as "full, lush, poppy but obscure".
"It's fully recorded and we only need to mix and master. We also have a name. We are very excited about it all. Like the proverbial kids in the candy stores. We're also hard at work to prepare a very special album launch... but details will remain secret for now," Ellis added.
Ellis was also enthusiastic about the upcoming concert, particularly since he feels there is a musical kinship of sorts between Stalko and The Moulettes - who have just released their second album, The Bear's Revenge.
"Like Stalko, they have a fancy for acoustic (classical) instruments, so we kind of come from the same background. Also, I think the theatrical aspect of their music is also a similarity - their music comes with this added feel like you're watching a play, with stories unfolding before you. It's a bit bombastic, but in a good way. It's also playful, but at the same time biting."
"I'm honestly looking forward to performing and then watching The Moulettes. I met them a while back and they're great people, so I think it's also going to be fun!" Ellis concluded.
Doors open from 21:00. Tickets at €10 can be bought from V-Gen, Coach and Horses and Why Not? They will be on sale at a higher price at the door.
