University of Malta to honour tenor Joseph Calleja

The University of Malta is to award an honorary degree to tenor Joseph Calleja in recognition of his achievement as one of the world's leading opera singers and as Malta's highly acclaimed cultural ambassador in the music world.

At its meeting of Thursday, 27 September 2012, the University Council approved Senate's recommendation of 25 September 2012 to award Mr Calleja the degree of Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) Honours Causa. The proposal was first made by the Honoris Causa Committee of the University and was unanimously approved.

The degree ceremony will be held at the Jesuits' Church in Valletta on Friday, 2 November 2012.
