Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears tweets his Malta advent
Vocalist tells fans via Twitter that he is on his way to Isle of MTV festival in Malta
“Boarding a little plane to Malta. Never been, BD and I reading The Passage. It’s amazing. J” – so says Jake Shears as he tweets out to some 20,500 followers.
Shears, the vocalist for American pop group Scissor Sisters, is coming to Malta, to join Kid Rock and Kelis at the Isle of MTV extravaganza on the Floriana granaries tomorrow night.
Signalling the massive impact of Twitter, a social networking and microblogging service, is the way celebrities use it to send out short messages to their fans. Twitter enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author’s profile page and delivered to the author’s subscribers who are known as followers.
Which is why Shears’ tweet does not go unnoticed: “Welcome to Malta!!!! Cant wait for tomorrow xxx” Elabonett tells Shears.
“no rest for the wicked ;)”, tweets photrex7.
Some travel tips also come from Boxerwelfare: “if you get the chance go over to the sister island Gozo its lovely not so many tourists!!! LOL."
“I used to live in Malta in late 70’s,” amy_a_bird says. “Was very quiet then, Gozo was empty! Golden sands was just a big beach.”
“Malta is a tiny little island but it is beautiful. If you have the time visit Marsaxlokk, wee picturesque fishing villiage,” anders74 tweets.
And of course, some sociological insight from MelvinMonster: “Malta is a wonderful place. Bit on the Holy side, but it is so welcoming. The natives are charming. U giging there? X.”
