Organised as part of the Violin and Friends International - running as part of the Malta International Music Competition - musicians from diverse countries will perform in various venues across Valletta and St Julian's until April 6.

These performances are borne out of courses organised by the initiative itself.

Malta International Music Master Classes welcome applications for piano, organ, violin, viola, cello, viola da gamba, double bass, guitar, clarinet, saxophone, tuba, chamber music ensemble, improvisation and the composition.

The courses take place in Valletta and other cities in Malta.

"Each course is intensive, but students have time to explore Malta's abundant artistic heritage. Violin and Friends International Music Festival brings professional artists and teachers of rare ability and international reputations together with talented and motivated students for intensive performance and study," Volodymyr Baran said.

He added that the programme aims to offer a professional and expandable platform and support to young musicians by making it possible for them to present their artistic output to a wider audience.

"Malta International Music Competition is open for pianists, violinists and chamber music ensembles. Musicians of any nation are invited to participate.

Prizes include  monetary rewards, concert performances, vouchers and various gifts.

On April 5, Russian pianist Konovalova Lyudmila will also perform at St Paul's Anglican Pro-Cathedral at 20:00.

A gala concert and prize giving ceremony will take place at Palazzo de La Salle, Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, 219, Republic Street, Valletta from 10:00 - 20:00 featuring performers from Switzerland, Germany, Poland, South Korea, Armenia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Portugal, Russia and Sweden.

Baran says that ultimately, the initiative strives to "enlarge networks between music lovers in Malta and coming from abroad, in promotion of classical and new music; to extend possibilities for Maltese and overseas musicians to show their talents and gain valuable experience in the art of performance".

Tickets at €20 (€25 for the gala concert) can be booked online (http://vfimf.com/tickets/), via email ([email protected]) or by calling 99 097717
