8-year-old Maltese wins Italian ‘Grand Prix’
Maltese representatives fare well in 'international showcase of young talent'.
8 year-old Eliana Gomez Blanco successfully represented Malta in the international festival 'Microfono d'Oro', which took place in Carpi, Italy last weekend.
Gomez Blanco not only won first place in her age category, but also the 'Grand Prix award', which means she was declared as the overall winner from all the categories, from 6-24 years.
As a result, this young girl was asked to perform as a special guest in the same festival next year.
The mission statement of the 'Microfono d'Oro' is to serve as a showcase of international young talent.
Gomez Blanco was not the only Maltese representative, with 17-year old Mikhail Attard also winning his category.
Attard was also awarded 'best composition' award while Gomez Blanco won the 'best lyrics' award.
Christopher Azzopardi wrote the lyrics for both singers, while Mro George Debono and his son, Geordie, composed the music.
