Piano performance by NCW Bice Mizzi Vassallo finalist at MIA
A piano performance by Bettina Cassar, who placed second in the last edition of the Bice Mizi Vassallo (BMV) Music Competition organised by the National Council of Women (NCW), took place recently at a rather unusual place: the departure lounge at MIA.
Cassar enthusiastically performed her music programme which included a Beethoven sonata op.10 no.1 in C minor 3rd movement; a Brahms intermezzo op.118 no.1; and a Debussy suite bergamasque- prelude.
The NCW had been holding this competition since 1987. The biannual Competition aimed to encourage young pianists and string players in their musical studies by offering a music experience abroad. Bettina Cassar would be attending master classes at the Music University of Vienna.
MIA CEO Julian Jaeger congratulated the young pianist for her success. He explained how MIA promoted and supported young talented students to pursue musical experiences and exchanges as part of its CSR policy.
While thanking MIA for their constant support in this initiative, NCW President Grace Attard insisted that the Council had always encouraged student mobility and the intermingling of cultures as opportunities for Maltese youth to widen their repertoire through artistic exposure with European counterparts, as could be witnessed by several past BMV award winners who today had become established international artists.
Attard wished the young pianist success in her musical career. The event was attended by Bettina’s parents, the NCW general secretary-general Doris Bingley and vice-president Nadyanne Mangion.
