Classical line-up for the philharmonic’s Christmas season
A chance to relax with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in some wonderful choral and orchestral music, ideal for all the family.
There are many stirring traditions during the Christmas season, and the Christmas Concert by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra has indeed become a regular feature in Malta's Christmas tradition.
For two consecutive evenings, Friday 20 and Saturday 21, the MPO performs the most beloved music of the holiday season, a real feast for the eyes and ears. The Friday performance will be held at the Colegiate Basilica of St. Helen in Birkirkara, and the Saturday performance will be held at the Qala Parish Church, in Gozo, both starting at 19:30 hrs.
This year the MPO will be joining forces with Chorus Urbanus under the direction of John Galea. Among a line-up of classic carols and seasonal music, the programme also includes Bach's unmistakable Toccata in D minor and Galea's own Missa Ignes Charitatis featuring soloists soprano Yvonne Galea, tenor Charles Vincenti and Bass Noel Galea.
The MPO Annual Christmas Concert, forms part of the orchestra's outreach programme to the community and entrance to the concerts is free, with seating on a first-come-first-served basis. In keeping with the spirit of Christmas, there will be a retiring collection in aid of The Richmond Foundation and the Dorothy Ellis Undation respectively.
With a festive programme that is sure to enhance your Christmas spirit, here is a chance to relax with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in some wonderful choral and orchestral music, ideal for all the family.
