Unique musical programme at Manoel Theatre
The Manoel Theatre will be presenting a unique concert of well-known works for piano-eight hands on April 12, 19:30.
Performing at the two pianos are Jennifer Micallef, Glen Inanga, Wayne Marshall and John McLaughlin Williams.
The programme consists of the overtures to Wagner’s The Mastersingers of Nuremberg and Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro; Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia ta’ Rossini, the Danse Macabre by Saint-Saëns, Chopin’s Polonaise in A, Slavonic Dance in G minor by Dvořák, Wagner’s The ride of the Valkyries, Chabrier’s España and Berlioz’s Rakoczi March.
Maltese pianist Jennifer Micallef forms part of a highly successful piano duo with Nigerian-born Glenn Inanga. The duo is well-known world-wide and also very popular in Malta.
They have recorded several CDs for the Hyperion label. In 2004 they founded the biannual Cayman International Music Festival which from this year will also run on a smaller scale during the in-between years.
Wayne Marshall is a very busy pianist, organist and orchestra director. Like the Micallef-Inanga duo, he has performed and conducted in some of the world’s most prestigious venues.
Very recently at Milan’s Auditorio he directed the Orchestra Verdi in a programme which included Martinů’s Concerto for Two Pianos featuring the Micallef-Inanga duo.
John MacLaughlin Williams is pianist, violinist and conductor. He guest conducts various well-known orchestras in the USA such as the Boston Symphony, the Boston Pops and the Chicago Sinfonietta and elsewhere. He is a tireless researcher and communicator, and the arrangements performed during the concert have been unearthed by him.
