MTA announce Isle of MTV traffic arrangements
Tourism Authority urges patrons to use public transport
The Malta Tourism Authority would like to inform the general public about the various traffic and security arrangements being made in connection with the Isle of MTV concert taking place on the Granaries in Floriana on 25 June, 2014.
The following various traffic arrangements are worth taking note of to avoid any inconvenience.
The Granaries car park will be closed from the 18 to the 27 of June, with the possibility of extension. The car park to side of the Phoenicia Hotel will be closed on 25 June from 17.00hrs onwards. The Floriana Park and Ride will remain operational during the night and a shuttle service will operate until 01.30hrs on the 25 June at the usual cost of 0.40c.
Triq Sarrija, Floriana, will be closed for bus transit all day on 25 June until noon o 26 June. St Publius street, Floriana, will be closed for parking from 25 June till 27 June.
To avoid traffic congestion and parking issues the general public is encouraged to make use of the public transport. Malta Public Transport Service Operators (MPTSO) will be operating a special service on the night starting from 23.00hrs till 01.30hrs to be extended till 02.00hrs if necessary.
Tickets will cost €3.00 and will entitle the holder to a full day of travel, including the return trip from the even,t and can be purchased beforehand or on the night.
Tickets have a special tear-off stub to allow travel on the Special Services. This stub is to be removed only by the driver or public transport officials before boarding on the Special Services. Tickets without the stub will not be deemed valid for travel on the special services after the concert, and passengers might be asked to purchase another ticket.
In the case of private coaches or mini buses, alighting and boarding is to take place next to APS bank in St Anne’s Street, Floriana. Coaches and minibuses can wait on the road in Crowns Ditch.
As usual there will be a raised platform for persons with disabilities; the area is available on a first come first served basis and tickets may be collected from the Malta Tourism Authority’s head office in Merchants Street, Valletta on Monday 23 June upon presentation of the Blue Badge. A ticket may also be collected for one accompanying person. Drop-off and pick-up on the night is next to the Independence monument.
In the interest of health and safety and smooth running of the event, the general public is urged to cooperate with the police, traffic police and wardens on duty on the night.
It is important to note that no glass bottles are allowed into the restricted area and the Police will be performing random searches. The MTA together with the Floriana Local Council strongly urge patrons to respect the residents and their property.
The public is strongly encouraged to make use of the sanitary facilities provided. The residential areas surrounding the venue will be patrolled by police and wardens and patrons will be fined for misdemeanours.
