Celebrating the Bard’s centenary with a mélange of favourites
In celebration of the Bard’s centenary year, MADC’s annual open-air Shakespeare will take the form of a tribute to this long-standing tradition of the club.
Shakespeare Revisited – A Centenary Tribute, will be a colourful mashup of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays, taking place at a new venue – the beautiful gardens of Palazzo Parisio in Naxxar.
In this special year the club’s ever-popular Shakespeare production will take the form of scenes from an array of all-time favourites: Twelfth Night, Julius Caesar, The Merchant of Venice, Henry V and A Midsummer Night’s Dream as well as short sonnet recital.
Apart from special appearances by Karmen Azzopardi and Joe Izzo, director Marylu Coppini has managed to bring together the crème-de-la-crème of local Shakespearian actors, with a cast headlined by Monica Attard, Godwin Scerri, Ninette Micallef, Nanette Brimmer, Colin Willis, John Marinelli, Katherine Brown, Renato Dimech, Martin Azzopardi, Joe Pace, Davinia Hamilton, Erin Stewart Tanti and Philip Leone Ganado.
Being the centenary of the club, director Marylu Coppini felt that a production-with-a-difference would be appropriate. “Audiences can be assured of an entertaining evening where they can see and hear eighteen actors in full costume, presenting favourite scenes and sonnets by Shakespeare against the beautiful backdrop of the Palazzo Parisio gardens,” she says.
The celebration will take place at Palazzo Parisio in Naxxar on July 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13 and 14 at 20:30, finishing at approximately 22:50.
Tickets may be booked or purchased from the website: www.madc.biz or by calling 79796232. There will be concessions for OAPs and students on booking and presentation of a valid Student Card or Karta Anzjan.
