Young luvvies walk away with prizes
Up-and-coming local theatre talent was rewarded last weekend at MADC’s One Act Play Festival
The Malta Amateur Dramatic Club (MADC)’s annual One Act Play Festival, which has launched the career of many local actors and directors, took place last weekend at the MADC Playhouse in Sta Venera.
Inaugurating the club’s theatrical season, which will include murder mystery play ‘Death of a Doornail’ at the Manoel Theatre in October and ‘Scrooge – a Christmas Panto’ at the MFCC over Christmas, the renowned festival showcased up-and-coming talent through a variety of short plays.
Vanessa Macdonald, Manuel Cauchi and Alfred Buttigieg were the year’s adjudicators of the four productions presented over four days. Awards were given as follows:
- Most Promising Actress: Gianella Mazzola
- Most Promising Actor: Luke Mercieca
- Best Actor: Chris Hudson
- Best Actress: Marta Vella
- Best Director: Chiara Hyzler
- Best Production: Passaport (directed by Erin Stewart Tanti)
The MADC, the island’s oldest drama club, turns 100 this year. A gala dinner is being organised on October 16 – 100 years to the day that the club was founded – to celebrate its centenary. More information may be obtained from www.madc.biz.
