Lufthansa Technik chief to step down
CEO Louis Giordimaina to step down.
After ten years at the helm of Lufthansa Technik Malta, Louis Giordimaina will be retiring from the post of CEO and will serve the company as director, supporting it in the dealing with government relations and business development.
This will be with effect from 1 September 2011.
Louis Giordimaina was instrumental in the setting up and running of the company since its start ten years ago, and subsequently spearheaded its expansion in his role as CEO.
Dr Thomas Steuger, one of the Executive Board Members of parent company Lufthansa Technik AG, said that without Giordimaina’s personal commitment, Lufthansa Technik Malta would have never come into being.
“The benefits of his achievements are not just with Lufthansa Technik itself but with the Maltese economy as well. His leadership has reaped very positive results for the company as evidenced by the quality of service given to our customers, the development of the labour force and the growth in operations.”
Lufthansa Technik Malta is currently in its ninth year of operations. The company has recently completed its 600th aircraft maintenance check since commencement of operations in January 2003. Lufthansa Technik Malta started with 110 employees and over the last 3 years has grown to over 600 employees. With an investment of over €70 million over the last 10 years, operations started in a hangar belonging to Air Malta and in 2009 inaugurated a brand new facility covering a footprint of over 60,000m2 which was built in a record time of 18 months. From maintenance on narrow body aircraft, the company now carries out overhauls on Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft.
