Government to get third data centre
MITA, the agency that provides IT services to government is said to be investing €7.3m into a new data center, to address growing requirements for hosting space, driven by the government’s upcoming new ICT initiatives.
This will be the Malta Information Technology Agency’s third data center.
The two existing data centers are about 84% occupied, supporting about 700 physical and virtualized servers, according to a MITA news release.
The new data center is expected to accommodate demand growth for about 10 years.
The data center’s total footprint will be about 27,000 sq ft. It will be served by two dedicated electrical substations, backed up by two generators. A 20kW photovoltaic plant will supplement its energy supply.
New ICT initiatives include a new eGovernment platform, eLearning, eHealth and eID cards.
