GO supports LifeCycle once again
GO has teams up with LifeCycle organisers and pledges full support as a platinum sponsor to the Betfair LifeCycle Challenge 2011.
This year’s challenge will see a total of 22 participating cyclists hit the road in the coming days to cover the arduous 2000km-long route from Pragueto Sarajevoacross 7 countries in just 11 days.
LifeCycle is one of the toughest endurance events in the whole of Europe. The main contributing factor to its success is the sheer determination and commitment of the cyclists and their back-up team.
LifeCycle has three main aims: namely to create awareness to the stark reality of renal disease, raise funds for the high-tech equipment necessary to upgrade the Renal Unit at Mater Dei and enhance the quality of life for patients suffering from end-stage renal disease by allowing them access to cutting-edge levels of care.
GO Manager for Public, Media Relations and Corporate Communications Vanessa Macdonald(who is part of the back-up team going on the challenge) said that“GO is pleased to be joining forces with LifeCycle yet again. We are proud to have supported this worthy cause through the 13 years of its existence and ongoing achievements.”
“We have no doubt that the whole team comprising cyclists – including GO employee Ruth Debono and back-up staff will do Maltaproud yet again this year. After long months of training, cyclists are now fully geared to face the challenge and have high hopes of raising as much money as in previous year for projects that will help meet the cost of treatment, life-saving equipment as well as research to support patients on dialysis,” Macdonald said.
“Sponsoring humane initiatives with a strong social implication – such as the LifeCycle cause – underpins GO’s corporate social responsibility and further reflects its strong social conscience. GO takes the opportunity of wishing the best of luck to everyone involved in the Betfair LifeCycle Challenge 2011,” she added.
During the presentation of GO’s sponsorship cheque,Alan Curry, chairman of the LifeCycle organisation, and council member of the LifeCycle Foundation thanked GO for its continued support over the years and said thatthe success of LifeCycle largely depends on the generosity of caring companies like GO and hefty donations from the public. The foundation has raised over €1 million since the first edition in 1999.
People are being encouraged to follow the daily progress of the participants on www.LifeCyclechallenge.com or on Facebook. The team will be at the airport on Friday at 11am for any well-wishers who want to see them off.
