Maltese business delegation in Germany
A series of one-to-one meetings were held between entrepreneurs forming part of a Maltese business delegation that visited Germany last week and their counterparts in Berlin during a business event held last Thursday.
In a press release, the Malta Chamber of Commerce said it supported the Malta Eneterprise in the business delegation organized by government. Maltese and German entrepreneurs had the opportunity to discuss potential cooperation and business relations.
Malta Enterprise and the Chamber also organized a business forum in Dusseldorf. Participants included Chamber President Tancred Tabone Malta’s Ambassador to Germany, H.E. Karl Xuereb, Malta Enterprise Executive Chairman Alan Camilleri and representatives from the Chamber of Commerce (IHK) Düsseldorf, Deloitte, Lufthansa Technik and FTI Travel.
The event was part of a series of political and business events led by the Hon. Dr. Tonio Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs during his official visit to Germany last week.
During the panel discussion Tabone described the role of the Malta Chamber, as well as the Malta Chamber’s healthy relations with the Maltese Ambassador to Germany and the Ambassador of Germany to Malta, with whom the Malta Chamber has worked closely in order to establish stronger relations between the two countries, as well as increase awareness for potential business opportunities and investment.
Tabone also highlighted the German-Maltese Business Council (GMBC), which was formed at the end of 2010. Mr. Armin Eckermann, a member of the GMBC Executive Committee also participated in the delegation.
Tabone explained that the GMBC was to be formally launched on 20th October 2011. The GMBC’s goal is to promote, facilitate and enhance business exchanges between Malta and Germany by being the focal point for businesses, organisations and other stakeholders regarding German/Maltese business. It also aims to create a solid and viable network of individuals/companies with a common interest in promoting Maltese-German relations.
The GMBC will also be organising events, both in Malta and in Germany, to raise the level of awareness of business opportunities of both sides.
Tabone explained that such business councils provide the ideal forum to connect Maltese business people with international companies based in Malta so that they share experiences, information and intelligence.
