Melita CEO addresses CTAM Euro Summit 2011 on cable marketing
Melita’s Chief Executive Officer Andrei Torriani addressed the CEOs' Forum at the Euro Summit 2011 organised by CTAM Europe – the Cable and Telecommunications Association for Marketing.
The conference was held in Malta at the end of September and brought together over 150 executives from global cable companies.
CTAM is a non-profit, non-commercial, professional membership organization. It was started in the U.S. 35 years ago with a vision to advance marketing excellence in the cable industry as well as the mastery of new technologies and strategic learning in cable, broadband and other emerging media.
Presenting the question ‘Best of Both Worlds?’, the CEO’s Forum discussed the experience of blending cable’s highly reliable and robust video offerings with the portability, interactivity and capability of new video-capable, Internet-connected devices.
Within a line of questions to CEO’s in the content and cable industry about the future of TV and content delivery, Torriani stated that: “having an open system platform will be a critical differentiator for operators, particularly small operators like Melita. Our customers want to be able to watch the content they want and when they want. The cable company is no longer the largest source for content - the internet is. Therefore, it is vital to allow access and integration to content providers through the same platform which our customers have already familiarised themselves with when accessing their preferred content”.
Mr Torriani added that “the role of the cable operator is changing more into an access facilitator and cable technology is ideal for that. Melita can provide high speed broadband just about anywhere at very affordable prices without the need of expensive customer equipment or trenching of any sort.”
Currently CTAM has more than 5,500 individual members and is supported by hundreds of the industry’s leading global corporations.
