Gozitan tourism establishments faring well – GTA survey
48.1% of Gozitan tourism establishments term their business performance ‘good’ in Gozo Tourism Association (GTA) survey.
Results showed that 48.1% of respondents termed the performance of their establishment during the third quarter of the year as ‘good’, while 46.3% qualified their business performance as ‘fair’.
Few establishments, represented by 5.6% of those who replied, declared that performance during the third quarter was ‘very good’.
Respondents were all members of the GTA and included hotel and self catering accommodation establishments, restaurants, diving centres, transport services, tourist attractions as well as DMCs, and tour agencies.
The survey also explored performance of domestic market within the third quarter of 2011 and was found to be generally accepted as good sustainers for the Gozitan tourism sector and was welcomed by all operators.
When asked how the business performed during the third quarter of 2011 when compared to the third quarter of 2010, 37% of respondents classified business performance as less, while 42.6% declared that performance was equal to 2010. 20.4% businesses declared that performance during the July to September 2011 quarter was in fact ‘better’ than from July to September 2010.
The third quarter domestic market performance for 2011 was rated as ‘bad’ by 17.6% of respondents while 47.1%, declared establishment performance as ‘fair’. The performance was classified as ‘good’ by 29.4%, while 5.9% of respondents said it was ‘very good’.
Gozitan tourism establishments also rated the effect of the domestic market on their business during the third quarter of 2011, when compared to the third quarter of 2010.
More than half (53%) said that the effect was equal, while 9.4% rated the effect of the domestic market on their performance as ‘better’ than in 2010. On the other hand 37.7% termed the effect of the domestic market as less than during the same quarter of 2010.
The foreign market’s effect on business performance during third quarter of 2011 was rated as ‘bad’ by 14.8% of participants, while 44.4%, declared their establishments’ performance as ‘fair’. The foreign market performance was classified as ‘good’ by 37 %, while 3.7% of respondents stated that it was ‘very good’.
The Gozitan tourism establishments rated the effect of the foreign market on their business performance during the third quarter of 2011, when compared to third quarter of 2010. Almost 38.9% stated that the effect was on an ‘equal footing’, while 16.7% rated the effect of the foreign market on their performance as ‘better’ than during 2010. On the other hand 44.4% termed the effect of the foreign market as ‘less than same quarter of 2010’.
GTA members also assessed revenue during the third quarter. 11% of survey respondents stated that their business revenue was ‘bad’, 55.6% declared that it was ‘fair’, while 33.4% of respondents said that it was ‘good’.
