Lufthansa Technik an investment success story - Fenech

Finance Minister says Lufthansa Technik Malta is one of government’s investment success stories as company signs agreement to maintain Brussels Airlines airplanes.

Lufthansa Technik Malta signed an agreement with the leading Belgian airline, Brussels Airlines for the maintenance of their Airbus A330 fleet as well as a complete cabin renovation of the planes as from February 2012.

Details of the agreement were given by Vice-President of Brussels Airlines Geert Sciot and Lufthansa Malta chief executive officer Stephan Drews during Finance Minister Tonio Fenech’s visit to the Lufthansa hangar.

“This company is an investment success story for our country which contributes to the Maltese economy which continued to grow even during international difficulties and Malta has the fifth lowest rate of unemployment (6.6%) in the European Union which has a total average close to 10%,” Fenech said.

Fenech praised the company for their success which was expected to restore recognition for the quality and dedication of the company’s 600 Maltese workers, with an average of age of 28.

“With the government’s investment of €60 million in the Lufthansa Technik hangar and €18 million in equipment, machinery and tools, the company was able to keep up to 700,000 hours of productive work in its hangar,” Fenech said.

Speaking on employment as one of the government’s main priorities, Fenech said that during the first nine months of 2011, the Employment and Training Corporation had 10,756 vacancy adverts. The number of reported redundancies was 1,254. The number of vacancies advertised during the same period in 2010 was recorded at 7,323, showing an increase in employment position available for the Maltese.

Apart from the maintenance of and repair of the Lufthansa aircraft itself, Lufthansa Technik Malta also has agreements with a number of other clients which include Etihad, Aegean Airlines, BMI, Germanwings, Clickair, Air One, STC Russiya, SAS and Afriqiyah.

vcas1 and Martin Again you're completely wrong and misguided ( maybe too much Superone and torca in your life guys) The luftansa venture with AirMalta you are speaking of is a totally different organization form Lufthansa Technick. I know what i'm saying i offered engineering services to lufthansa during Sant's govenrment. Get the facts right before you post. it's not the first time Labour media distorts the facts You're wrong again on the ACCOR statement being a giant in tourism operations. Here are the facts: http://www.google.com/finance?q=EPA%3AAC They are a minor league player in tourism with a portfolio of Airport hotels. They managed Selmun Palace and wrecked the business. Hilton, Radisson and Intercontinental are among the most successful hotel chains worldwide (besides Marriot and sheraton) operating in Malta. Cheap talk only degrades you contribution and your reputation to any blog.

Negotiations with Lufthansa started under Dr Sant, unfortunately in 1998 we had the Mintoff saga and thus although negotiations were finalized Lufthansa started ops in 2003. This means that EFA took 3 more years to have Lufthansa operating, 3 wasted years. It remains that Dr Sant's government lured Lufthansa to Malta. Now stop nitpicking.

Bull. Lufthansa as repairs station in Malta was brought over in 1997together with the tourism giant ACCORd. If they started calling themselves Technik in 2003 that's another story.

You're completely wrong Mr Borg, Lufthansa Technik Malta was set up in 2003 by then 4 years had past since the last Labour govt. Check this link directly form the company's website and it clearly mentions when it started operating in Malta. http://www.ltm.com.mt/html/Services.aspx

Of course Tonio Arseinall Fenech forgot to mention that Lufthansa Technik were brought over to Malta by Dr. Alfred Sant. You might have forgotten this Tonio but we did not.
