Air Malta appoints chief officer organisational development

Air Malta has announced the appointment of Joshua Zammit as Chief Officer Organisational Development.

Zammit, who is also president of the Malta Employers Association, will be entrusted with building the organisational development function of the airline and developing and implementing modern human resources systems which support the business objectives of the company.

He will also be responsible for the cultural transformation within the airline as well as industrial relations and staff development. He will be reporting to Peter Davies, Air Malta’s CEO.

Zammit has over 14 years’ experience in organisational development and human resources management both locally and internationally.  He has held various appointments in the public and private sectors with his most recent being at Actavis, an international generic pharmaceutical company.  Prior to this he has held positions in consultancy and senior management having worked for the Management Systems Unit, the Planning Authority (now MEPA) and MITTS Ltd (now MITA).  His international experience spans the US and Europe among others and has led or participated in a number of projects varying from post acquisition integration to leadership development and change management.

“Joshua brings with him a wealth of experience after working both in Malta and abroad. He has built a strong track record in implementing a comprehensive program of organisational change and staff development,” CEO Peter Davies said.

“This is a challenging post and a key position within the airline and I believe he has the right skills and aptitude to make a genuine difference. He will lead a cultural transformation of the airline, a key element of the restructuring exercise and will be supporting the airline’s senior management to build a customer centric organisation that is able to compete profitably and successfully.”

Zammit added: “I am very happy to be entrusted with this opportunity.  Air Malta is one of the most important organisation on the islands and it is a great honour for me to be able to support its turnaround. Although I have a huge responsibility before me, I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead and I am confident that through the backing of all stakeholders we can manage to return our National Airline to profitability.”

So we Maltese are not CWIEC after all.

If Air Malta continues at this rate i.e. recruiting more executives, it will soon be a top heavy organisation - having more chiefs than Indians. A modern and efficient organisation is flat one.

Well Done AirMalta and Prosit to Joshua for his appointment. Here's a man with a proven and credible track record on his shoulders rather than another political appointee. Good Luck for your new post.
