Air Malta organises flight arrival and despatch processes review workshop

Air Malta has organised a workshop on its flight arrival and despatch processes to identify problems, solutions and new ideas in the chain of processes involved in despatching a flight.

Air Malta participants had an opportunity to identify possible solutions to problems and then asked to vote for the best ideas.

Chief Commercial Officer Ray Hart said the national airline had to increase revenue by €30 million and decrease costs by the same amount, and said the restructuring exercise would leave no stone unturned to identify solutions for the company.

Hart also gave employees an overview of the 167 individual projects that are being handled by his office that span areas related to cargo, finance, corporate and financial restructuring, contracts management, ground handling, human resources, information technology and revenue enhancement amongst others.

The workshop brought together employees involved in the checking in of passengers, aircraft engineers, pilots and cabin crew, load control, ramp and despatch, luggage handlers and employees working in cargo operations.

All participants then had an opportunity to identify possible solutions to the problems and then asked to vote for the best ideas and initiatives, which were then categorised according to the participants' votes.

Air Malta Chief Commercial Officer Philip Saunders said the airline was slowly moving forward on its way to recovery.

"We are already seeing good signs as this summer both seat load factors and yields have increased. Although much work still needs to be done I'm confident that transformation can be driven by everyone around this table.

"Since joining the airline I have seen a genuine desire by all staff in various levels to make the airline move forward and return it as soon as possible to profitability. These workshops are a clear indication that Air Malta employees together with the airline's management are in the driving seat to spearhead this much needed change."
