MHRA express concern over fuel price increase

Hoteliers say price increase is 'yet another blow to competitiveness'.

The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association has expressed its concern over the last 2c increase in diesel and kerosene fuel prices, saying this was yet another blow towards diminishing the industry's competitiveness.

The MHRA accused the Malta Resources Authority of totally ignoring stakeholders when deciding on price increases requested by Enemalta.

"The steady increases in the cost of running business operations need to be addressed immediately as our competitiveness is constantly being eroded," MHRA president Tony Zahra said.

The MHRA added that the cumulative increase of thin fuel over the past year and a half has exceeded 50%, which cost hoteliers an additional €2.5 million, thus putting a heavy burden on the hotel and restaurant industry.
