120 prison convictions for VAT offences

VAT offences send 120 to Corradino Correctional Facility since 2000.

A parliamentary question has revealed a total of 120 people were imprisoned since 2000 over offences related with Value Added Tax payments.

The table below presented in the House shows statistics for 2004-2011.

Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici said the convictions were due to failure to pay VAT, with the resultant fines converted into a prison sentence.

Thanks to the eu that had ordered the PN government to introduce VAT which is the most immoral and unjust tax or else it wouldn't have allowed Malta's membership.
