GO plc's board of directors met for the first time today following the recent announcement that Yiannos Michaelides, currently Chief Commercial Officer, will be assuming the role of company Chief Executive Officer as of September 7, 2012.

Over the coming weeks, Michaelides will also be occupying the post of deputy CEO.

Whilst welcoming Michaelides in his new role, the meeting also provided an opportunity for the board to thank outgoing CEO David Kay for his work over the past six years. During this period GO successfully expanded its range of products from fixed line and mobile telephony to also become a leading provider of TV and internet services.

"It is indeed a great honour for me to be taking on this leadership role in such a dynamic and customer driven business as GO," Mr Michaelides said. "David has done a fantastic job, not always in the easiest of circumstances, to make GO Malta's leading quad play communications brand. My challenge is clearly to keep up the momentum and help GO maintain its position through ongoing investment in our networks and product offerings and by ensuring that our customers remain at the heart of everything we do."

On his part, Kay thanked the staff at GO. "You have put in a great effort over the past six years to make GO such a success. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Malta and wish Yiannos and the rest of the team all the very best for the future."

Prior to joining GO, Michaelides was senior executive at Emirates International Telecommunications Limited (EITL), GO's main shareholder, with responsibilities which included portfolio management and value creation at EITL portfolio companies. Before joining EITL he was Vice President of Strategic Marketing at du, the new integrated telecoms operator in the UAE. Prior to du he held a variety of senior marketing and managerial positions with leading telecommunication businesses in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Michaelides holds a B.Eng (Honours), M.Eng from McGill University (Montreal, Canada) and an M.B.A. with distinction from Warwick Business School (UK).
