Office for Competition approves Gasan Zammit Motors merger

New joint venture company’s operations to commence as from 1st November 2012.

The strategic merger announced last August of the automotive and marine businesses of the Gasan Group and the Zammit Group has been approved by the Office for Competition. The newly formed company GasanZammit Motors Limited is expected to formally commence its operations on the 1st November 2012.

"We are delighted with this latest development which effectively gives us the green light to start operations next month," Joseph Gasan and Joseph Zammit, directors of the newly formed GasanZammit Motors Limited, said.

"Initial reactions of the local market have been generally positive as consumers are viewing this merger as an opportunity to benefit from the synergies that can be gained from the coming together of two of Malta's motor industry key players who will be consolidating and building on past achievements and long years of experience to offer a yet more extensive range of products and services at more advantageous terms and conditions."

GasanZammit Motors Limited will be operating from the Gasan Centre in Mrieħel which will be housing all of the Automotive and Marine brands - an authentic and effective One-Stop-Shop Complex, if ever there was one, offering customers the largest choice of brands and models in all segments under one roof.

This merger effectively means that the newly formed company GasanZammit Motors Limited will be the second largest car importer in Malta offering a wide choice of international brands, namely Ford, Honda, Mazda, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Volvo, Isuzu, Yamaha, Capelli and Pirelli.

The principal affect of this merger will undoubtedly be a loss of jobs(cavalierly not mentioned) as is the case with all mergers -as duplicity is automatically eradicated and waht do you think is the drivinmg force behind any merger-to save those merging money, I would suggest!
