Tourism leaders to get €12,000 course for free in ESF programme

€3 million allocated for a programme funded by the European Social Fund and the Maltese government to provide training for ‘tourism leaders’

‘Advance, Training Tourism Leaders’ is a nationwide training programme for employees and managers working in the tourism industry under the auspices of the Malta Tourism Authority. The programme, for which 3 million euro has been allocated, is being fully funded by the European Social Fund and the government of Malta. The courses, which cost some €12000 per participant, are being offered absolutely free of charge.  

The Advance Training Tourism Leaders course is a nationwide programme that will train some 1,400 managers, supervisors and those who want to enter the tourism field. The course, leads participants to gain qualification equivalent to a university diploma.

This nationwide training programme, a first of its kind in Malta, is being offered on two platforms - one for senior managers and another for those in supervisory and middle management positions of companies and organisations operating in the tourism and hospitality sector. The programme is also open to those who are not currently working in tourism but considering a new career in the sector as well as to those who are currently seeking employment and wish to train for a job in tourism and hospitality. The programme is ideal for those working in senior management or in supervisory roles in tourist sectors such as accommodation, catering travel or transport, visitor attractions, English language schools, scuba diving, the creative industry (crafts, performing arts, recording studios and others) and any other sector which is involved with hospitality.

Both programmes are being tutored by twelve foreign world class foreign speakers including Stephen Taylor -  a lecturer at the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Strathclyde and Dimitrios Buhalis, a leading Strategic Management and Marketing expert with specialisation in Technology and Tourism and Director of the International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research (ICTHR) at Bournemouth University. Jim Hamill, another world class speaker on the programme, is widely acknowledged as a leading expert on tourism marketing, customer led e-business and Tourism 2.0.
