Gainfully employed up by 1.1% over September 2011

Administrative data provided by the Employment and Training Corporation indicate that during a twelve-month period to September 2012, the number of persons registered as full-timers increased by 1,669 persons, reaching 152,483. The number of registered unemployed also increased by 315 to 6,869 persons when compared to September 2011.

When compared to September 2011, full-time employment within the Administration and Support Service Activities and within the Human Health and Social Work Activities, registered increases of 801 and 400 persons respectively. On the other hand employment within the Manufacturing sector declined by 305.

Private sector employment increased by 1.7 per cent, or 1,882 persons, and amounted to 73.2 per cent of total full-time employment. On the other hand, public sector employment decreased by 0.52 per cent or 213 persons when compared to September 2011. The highest increase within private sector employment was recorded in the Administrative and Support Services Activities  (+12.8 per cent). During the month under review, public sector employment in the Transportation and Storage Sector registered a decrease of 9.8 per cent.

In September 2012, female full-time employment increased by 3.2 per cent, reaching 52,760 persons when compared to the corresponding month in 2011.The highest increase in female employment was recorded within the Human Health and Social Work Activities (+4.9 per cent).

Over a one-year period, the number of employees increased by 1.1 per cent, with the highest increase being recorded in the Administration and Support Service Activities (+10.7 per cent). During the month under review, the number of self-employed rose by nearly 1 per cent.

Part-Time Employment

Year-on-year, part-time employment went up by 5.4 per cent, or 2,841 persons, to 55,369. The highest increase in part-time employment was recorded within the Accommodation and food service activities, +7.9 per cent or 799 persons.

In September 2012, the number of part-timers who also held a full-time job increased by 3.5 per cent, with the highest increase being recorded among females; +7.3 per cent. The amount of part-timers who held a part-time job as their primary occupation rose by 6.8 per cent, with the highest increase recorded among females; +6.3 per cent.
