Aviation company invests in new hangar and creates 40 new jobs

MCM Maintenance Centre announces €5.5 million investment

M.C.M. Maintenance Centre Malta Ltd, a company engaged in the repair and maintenance of aircraft, specialising the repair and overhaul of business jets, has today announced a significant expansion in its operations, leading to a €5.5 million investment which will create up to 40 new jobs.

M.C.M. Ltd had set up in December 2008 and currently operates from a 750 square metre hangar. The company has since then experienced significant growth, having increased employment to 35 jobs.  The company is also experiencing demand for its services from larger aircraft that cannot be accommodated in the present facility. For this purpose, M.C.M. announced an expansion project whereby it will construct a new 2,400 sqm hangar adjacent to its current facility.

The proposed project - which is being supported by government through Malta Enterprise, is a €5.5 million investment, which is envisaged to generate 40 new jobs.

Finance Minister Tonio Fenech, who toured the MCM premises, welcomed this news, noting that over the past five years the country has seen a significant growth in the local aviation industry - which today includes not only a number of airline maintenance and repair companies, but also flight academies, a fast-growing airline register and other companies which provide different services to this the sector.

This has been the result of tailor-made incentives to the operators, as well as the fruit of a substantial investment in education and testament to the direct correlation between the quality of education and job creation. The sector now employs close to 1,100 people.

Government has complemented this growth with an investment of €17 million in an aviation park.

So now we have it from Tonio Fenech himself, that investment is coming to Malta even now that we are going to have a Labour Government.
